Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent, and a passing score on the PRAXIS PARAPRO test, or 48 semester hours from an accredited university or college.
Primary Purpose:
The Educational Support Specialist provides assistance to students with disabilities within various educational environments, including general education classrooms and specialized settings. This role involves collaborating with teachers and related service personnel to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring the personal care and safety of students, and offering necessary support for physical, health, or behavioral challenges to promote student success.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

- Adhere to School Board Policy and comply with Federal, State, and District professional development requirements.
- Supervise and assist students during arrival and departure times.
- Provide support for restroom needs and assist with personal hygiene as required.
- Oversee students during meal times, including breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
- Facilitate student transitions during daily activities, assemblies, and field trips.
- Aid teachers in managing classroom behavior and maintaining an effective learning environment.
- Support students in completing tasks and practicing skills being taught.
- Redirect student focus towards instructional activities and provide verbal guidance.
- Encourage language development through questioning and reading activities.
- Promote positive behavior and manners among students.
- Assist in the integration of technology into learning activities.
- Maintain a safe and healthy atmosphere conducive to learning.
- Exercise sound judgment in all interactions.
- Recognize and reward positive behavior and academic efforts.
- Assist with lifting students as necessary for mobility and participation.
- Attend required training sessions as mandated by State and District guidelines.
- Collaborate closely with the classroom teacher and adhere to their guidance.
- Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Foster positive communication about the school program within the community.
- Build and sustain cooperative relationships with colleagues.
- Demonstrate respect and professionalism in all workplace interactions.
- Minimize distractions that may hinder student needs.
Other Job Functions:
- Uphold the confidentiality of sensitive information regarding students and staff.
- Maintain current certifications in First Aid and CPR, along with completing additional professional development hours each school year.
- Undertake other responsibilities as necessary to support the efficient operation of the educational environment.
