Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Coordinator I to join our team. As a key member of our organ donation process, you will be responsible for coordinating the recovery of organs for transplantation and research. This is a full-time, on-call position that requires flexibility and a strong ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review authorization forms, serology results, and other relevant documents to ensure accurate and efficient organ recovery.
  • Communicate effectively with anesthesia and hospital staff in the OR setting to ensure seamless coordination.
  • Set up equipment and supplies for organ preservation and prepare aortic and portal vein cannulation.
  • Assist with the recovery of research organs by reviewing protocol with surgeons or assisting LOPA's research coordinators.
  • Label, package, and verify all organs, vessels, and tissue typing specimens according to protocol.
  • Transport and set up all supplies required for the preservation and packaging of organs.
  • Complete accurate and thorough documentation for organs and tissues recovered, donor chart, and case duties.
  • Assist with post-mortem care, including disposition of the donor, cleaning of the OR and DCU, and equipment.
  • Monitor kidneys while on the perfusion machine.
  • Provide assistance to the ORC and/or OR coordinator during organ recovery.
Requirements
  • Medical terminology with experience in patient care settings.
  • Surgical Technology certificate or diploma preferred.
  • Previous OPO experience or 2 years of work experience as a Surgical Technologist preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Ability to deliver effective and professional verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with internal and external colleagues.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding and to solve problems.
  • Ability to be flexible in a dynamic work environment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Work Environment

This position requires working in a fast-paced environment with possible exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, airborne illnesses, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents. You may also be exposed to blood, packaged organs, and tissues for transplant and/or research in a hospital setting or while in the office.

This role requires travel within the U.S., including flying, and travel to branch office locations. Work is done indoors in an office setting, and you will be required to work in a sometimes demanding time schedule.

Education and Experience

Medical terminology with experience in patient care settings. Surgical Technology certificate or diploma preferred. Previous OPO experience or 2 years of work experience as a Surgical Technologist preferred.
