Job Summary

This part-time faculty position is responsible for assisting in the instruction of first-year and second-year dental hygiene students during clinical sessions. The Clinical Dentist/Instructor will be responsible for verifying patient treatment needs, including radiographic interpretation, local anesthesia, and nitrous oxide administration, evaluation, and prescription of medicaments to patients. Additionally, the Clinical Dentist/Instructor will create a learning environment that involves active communication with dental hygiene students during interactions with patients and advise students as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides clinical instruction and direction to students in accordance with program objectives.
  • Critiques students' clinical performance to ensure clinical competence.
  • Maintains appropriate clinical performance records, including clinical assessments and competencies, student conference forms, and attendance records.
Requirements

Graduate of an accredited dental school through the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). The faculty member must have a DDS or DMD degree with a minimum of five or more years of work experience in clinical practice as a dentist. The faculty member must be licensed or eligible for licensure from the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners. Documented background in current educational methodology concepts, including teaching methodology, evaluation, and assessment, consistent with teaching assignments required.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong organizational and writing skills; attention to detail, excellent advising/counseling skills. Dental software experience required. Computer literate. Effective oral and written communication skills, student-centered approach, and an ability to interact effectively and professionally with students, staff, faculty, and patients. CPR/BLS for the Healthcare Provider current certification required.
