Wine Expert Wanted for Fine Dining Restaurant

We are seeking a highly skilled and knowledgeable wine professional to join our team at VENETO Ristorante Italiano. As a Sommelier, you will be responsible for providing exceptional wine service to our guests, working closely with the Front of House team and owners to ensure a world-class dining experience.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide impeccable wine service to guests, following our standards and guidelines.
  • Capture guest wine orders accurately and answer questions about wine with confidence.
  • Perform opening and closing duties, as detailed on our checklist.
  • Participate in daily pre-service meetings, weekly server meetings, and monthly FOH meetings.
  • Be a steward of our restaurant culture, ensuring it remains positive, productive, and healthy.
  • Assist owners with projects and tasks as needed.
  • Lead and assist in wine-related duties, such as inventory, monitoring, and education.
  • Participate in management meetings and contribute to FOH and restaurant meetings.
  • Communicate regularly with the team and owners, distributing information as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Owner mentality and independent thinking.
  • Dependable and trustworthy, with excellent communication skills.
  • Thorough and detail-oriented, with a passion for wine and hospitality.
  • Excellent knowledge of wines, wine service, and food pairings.
  • Regional expertise in Italy and understanding of viticulture and winemaking.
  • Wine sales proficiency and ability to assist with wine cellar management.
  • Old-world wines and champagne expertise.
  • Preferably, wine certification or pursuit of certification.
Requirements:
  • Learn and embody our VENETO-style service, providing impeccable service to guests nightly.
  • 2-3 years of experience in fine dining, with similar service and operational standards.
  • Ability to work well on a team, receptive to feedback and coaching.
  • Professional appearance and grooming standards.
  • Interest in wine and ongoing education, preferred.
  • Valid Food Handler and Sips & Tips certifications.
  • Ability to lift 40+ lbs and work weekends and holidays.
  • Multi-tasking and attention to detail.
