Miller Welding Automation is seeking a dynamic individual for the role of Software Automation Manager. This position will concentrate on the development of new products in both collaborative and traditional robotics. The Software Automation Manager will be instrumental in steering growth in welding automation beyond market expectations. This prominent role within the ITW Welding segment reports directly to the Automation Business Unit Director and requires a deep understanding of leading automation technologies, along with the agility to adapt to various projects as needed. The ideal candidate will lead a geographically diverse development team and work closely with product management, service teams, and end users to enhance user experiences and establish unique value propositions.

Key Responsibilities:

Software Development and User Experience:

  • Oversee software development initiatives focused on user experience (UX) and the enhancement of functionalities for collaborative robotics.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert on software trends and technologies relevant to welding robotics.

Vendor Management:

  • Manage relationships with external vendors and contractors.
  • Assess potential companies and emerging technologies.

Talent Development:

  • Identify and nurture talent to build a robust team.

Performance Management:

  • Develop methods to measure performance against established goals.
  • Strive to achieve critical tasks with quantifiable outcomes.
  • Exceed performance expectations by achieving excellence.
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of urgency in problem-solving and task completion.
  • Collaborate across functions and departments to develop business opportunities that drive relevant business models, partnerships, and resource alignment.
Qualifications:

Management and Leadership:

  • Proven experience in managing direct reports.
  • Self-driven with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Minimal travel required.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in writing and debugging C++ and Qt.
  • Understanding of setup, development, and debugging in a Linux environment.
  • Experience with cross-compiling.

Software Testing and Integration:

  • Experience in software/UX testing and defining functional tests.
  • Familiarity with software version control systems.
  • Experience in systems architecture.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with AI and Machine Learning.
  • Understanding of embedded system development.
  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration processes.
  • Experience with vision/optics integration.
  • Knowledge of robotics and/or industrial automation.
  • Experience managing Agile teams.
