Summary: Under the guidance of the Charge Nurse, the Mental Health Counselor is responsible for delivering psychiatric care to patients of various age groups, including adults, adolescents, and children. This role involves planning and executing therapeutic interventions that align with patient needs and treatment objectives, ensuring a safe and high-quality care environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:- Milieu Therapy: Actively engage with assigned patients, collaborating with the nursing team to establish effective treatment strategies. Conduct initial psychological assessments and provide consistent individual counseling aimed at achieving treatment goals.
- Patient Assessment: Work alongside unit staff to evaluate and monitor patients' mental health status. Build therapeutic relationships and contribute to the development of treatment plans, ensuring a supportive and safe therapeutic environment.
- Supportive Care: Offer assistance to patients in daily living activities, including personal care and recreational engagement. Set boundaries and encourage positive interactions among patients.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of patient progress and interactions, preparing reports that detail mental status and significant communications.
- Family Support: Provide education and support to family members regarding the patient's condition and care plan, collaborating with external agencies as needed.
- Bachelor's Degree in psychology or a related field is preferred.
- Bilingual candidates (Spanish/English) are preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
This role is set within a patient care environment, which may involve exposure to challenging situations. Regular walking and standing are expected as part of the daily responsibilities.
