Job Overview

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The Technology Support Specialist plays a crucial role in aiding faculty, staff, and students in utilizing information technology and classroom tools through various communication methods, including documentation, phone, email, and face-to-face interactions. This position provides technical assistance for software, hardware, and network issues to all users, as well as support for video conferencing and classroom technology. The specialist will collaborate closely with the Directors of Information Technology and Media Integration Services Center (MISC) in all office responsibilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Deliver technical assistance and resolve routine to complex user hardware and software inquiries, including desktop systems and enterprise software.
  • Install, update, and maintain personal computers, printers, and other endpoint devices in user environments and labs.
  • Offer professional, courteous, and timely support, ensuring accurate solutions for users.
  • Communicate effectively to analyze and troubleshoot user issues, providing appropriate resolutions.
  • Prioritize Service Desk tickets in accordance with departmental guidelines, documenting issues in the online Service Desk System and updating users as necessary.
  • Assist fellow IT staff as needed.
  • Identify and address intricate, multifaceted issues promptly.
  • Undertake additional reasonable duties as assigned.
  • Maintain an inventory of campus audio-visual equipment requiring repair.
  • Set up audio-visual systems for various campus and community events.
  • Provide training to instructional staff on the effective use of presentation technologies.
  • Support the installation, operation, and upkeep of campus audio-visual systems.
  • Contribute to the creation of audio-visual presentations.
  • Assist in formulating the MISC budget, including making recommendations for purchases and conducting cost analyses.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong focus on customer service.
  • Familiarity with general audio/visual hardware and software troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of desktop hardware and software troubleshooting.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and discern similarities and differences.
  • Proficient in conveying technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Capacity to prioritize short-term tasks effectively.
  • In-depth knowledge of Windows operating systems.
  • Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures and departmental guidelines.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to exercise patience and good judgment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred:
  • Two years of relevant experience in IT and/or AV.
  • Associate's degree.
  • Microsoft certifications.
  • A+ Certification (additional experience and education may substitute for certification).
  • Advanced skills in desktop hardware and software troubleshooting.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Flexibility in working hours may be required to meet job responsibilities.
  • Fast-paced work environment with frequent interruptions.
SALARY: $36,747 annually / This is a 12-month position compensated over 12 months.
