Maintenance Plumber

Zion Elementary School District 6 is seeking a skilled Maintenance Plumber to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance department, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our plumbing systems.

• Assemble, install, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures for heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications.
• Determine sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as indicated or according to work orders.
• Join pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints.
• Install and repair plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, commodes, bath tubs, water heaters, and pumps.
• Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals such as iron, steel, brass, copper, and lead; also, non-metals such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic; using both hand and power tools.
• Test pipe systems with water and air pressure.
• Assume primary responsibility for the safe condition of pipes, drains, and plumbing fixtures in the facilities owned or operated by the district.
• Receive and complete departmentally assigned work orders.
• Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.
• Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
• Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
• Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
• Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
• Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.
• Respond to emergency calls as needed.
• Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
• Other duties could include working in other areas of the maintenance department to provide support during absences or shortage of staff in other trades.

• High school diploma
• Plumber license
• Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
• Demonstrated aptitude for supervising other individuals
• Working knowledge of plumbing, electricity, and heating/air conditioning systems
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
