Job Summary

This is a highly skilled position that requires proficiency in the maintenance, repair, and operation of heating, cooling, steam/hot water boilers and boiler auxiliary equipment, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance within the maintenance service zone.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain, repair, and install plumbing systems and associated equipment/fixtures, including cutting threads, assembling and installing pipe, connecting valves, caulking joints, and testing jobs with the installation of gas, water, and sanitary fixtures/equipment with their supports, hangers, and foundations.
  • Perform journey-level work up to 600 vac in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of secondary electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures, including conduit wire, electrical panels, breakers, switch gear, magnetic starters, disconnects, motors, light fixtures, ballasts, switches, receptacles, control system faults, and corrections.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair boilers, fan turbines, pumps, condensate receivers, steam lines, expansion joints, strainers, pressure reducing stations, piping, insulation, air compressors, water softeners, and other equipment for generating and controlling steam, which requires pipe fitting and other skills.
  • Participate in quarterly on-call programs, carrying a pager for one week at a time, and be available to work overtime and/or alternate shifts when necessary for emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
  • Assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor and demonstrate a depth of knowledge and skills for pneumatic controls, as well as DDC-type controls.
  • Communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.
