Job Overview

Ministerial Role

The Rector serves as the primary representative and unifying figure within the parish community, entrusted with the mission of Christ. To achieve this mission, the Rector collaborates with selected individuals (clerics, religious, or laypersons) who assist in various responsibilities.


Positions within the Diocese of Austin Catholic Parishes are designed to support the Rector's ministry in specific capacities as detailed in the job outline. Consequently, the individual in this role will work closely with the Rector to facilitate his ministry and engage in service for the Church.

Position Summary:

The main duty involves maintaining the overall condition of the parish facilities, including the church, hall, and rectory. Responsibilities encompass light maintenance and custodial tasks, along with special projects and additional duties as assigned. The Facility Services Technician will report directly to the Director of Development/Facility Operations regarding tasks, schedules, and special projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance Duties:

  • Landscaping - ensuring outdoor spaces are tidy and free from litter.
  • Replacing air filters.
  • Painting tasks.
  • Changing light bulbs.
  • Performing minor repairs.

Custodial Duties:

  • Cleaning activities including mopping, sweeping, dusting, and vacuuming.
  • Emptying trash and recycling containers.
  • Sanitizing restrooms.

Event Assistance:

  • Setting up and cleaning up for events.
  • Opening and closing facilities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with cleaning methods and practices.
  • Basic knowledge and ability to operate tools.
  • Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to engage positively with the public.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Bilingual skills are advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 40 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications:


Experience:

Preferred one year of experience, but training is available.

Licenses/Certifications:

Must obtain certification in Diocese of Austin EIM within 60 days of employment and maintain it throughout the employment period.

Work Environment:

  • Employees are engaged in ministry and closely aligned with the Pastor in fulfilling his responsibilities to the Church.
  • The organization operates on an at-will employment basis.
  • All facilities are designated as tobacco and alcohol-free.
  • Work may occur in a dynamic environment with rapidly changing priorities.
  • Availability for weekends, evenings, and certain holidays may be necessary.
  • Exposure to religious events, practices, and language, including Catholic Christian prayers and liturgical celebrations, is expected.
  • Adherence to dress codes and conduct standards is required, including compliance with EIM standards.
  • Use of a personal vehicle for off-site meetings or events may be necessary.
  • Personal and professional activities must align with the mission and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
