About the Role

Burns & McDonnell is a leading engineering, architecture, and construction company with a strong presence in the mission-critical data center sector. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Plumbing Engineer to join our team and contribute to the design and delivery of world-class projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead plumbing design project teams to create efficient and effective designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution and meet client requirements.
  • Develop and implement plumbing equipment specifications, data sheets, and technical bid summaries.
  • Review and approve plumbing equipment vendor drawings and data interfaces.
  • Participate in project schedule, scope, budget, staffing, and construction planning.
  • Manage change orders and ensure effective project execution.
  • Apply expert knowledge of industry standard plumbing practices, codes, and procedures.
  • Develop and implement non-standard design solutions for complex projects.
  • Perform quality reviews of production drawings and specifications.
  • Lead field inspections, installation, measurements, and calculations for public and private clients.
  • Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, customers, and contractors.
  • Participate in sales and marketing efforts to identify key pursuits.
  • Develop and implement cost proposals and qualification statements.
  • Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the plumbing engineering practice.
  • Mentor plumbing staff team members and advocate for their professional development and growth.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 7 years of plumbing engineering experience.
  • Expert knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing equipment design codes (ASPE, IPC, UPC).
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
  • Flexible schedule to travel locally and across the country.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License Preferred.
  • Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) certification preferred.
