WSP is on the lookout for a Lead Geotechnical Engineer with a strong background in mining to become a vital part of our Mine Waste team.

This role offers the chance to collaborate with a regional team on complex mining, heavy civil, and geotechnical initiatives.

Your Contributions

As a key player, you will be responsible for:
  • Overseeing the civil design of mine waste containment systems, including tailings and waste rock facilities, focusing on layout, site selection, and technical specifications.
  • Managing diverse geotechnical engineering projects, which encompass field investigations, laboratory testing, and data analysis.
  • Directing and reviewing intricate geotechnical evaluations, emphasizing soil mechanics, stability, seepage, and thermal modeling.
  • Independently steering projects in alignment with client-approved scopes, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality reports.
  • Engaging in client relationship management and business development efforts to enhance our service offerings.
  • Leading multidisciplinary project teams to achieve project goals.
  • Contributing to technical proposals and design packages tailored to client requirements.
  • Guiding junior engineers in their professional development.
  • Staying updated on the latest advancements in geotechnical engineering.
  • Collaborating with engineers and planners on infrastructure projects funded at various governmental levels.
  • Upholding ethical standards and adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct.
  • Taking on additional responsibilities as dictated by business needs.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should possess:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in engineering, particularly in geotechnical design.
  • Professional Engineer registration.
  • Experience with heavy civil projects and proficiency in industry-standard software.
  • A solid understanding of soil mechanics and geotechnical principles.
  • Strong client interaction and business development capabilities.
  • Project management experience, including budget tracking and scope management.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong self-leadership abilities with a keen attention to detail.
  • The capability to work independently while providing mentorship to junior team members.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and critical thinking abilities.
  • A commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company policies.
  • Flexibility to accommodate project-specific schedules and occasional travel.
Preferred Qualifications

Additional qualifications that would be advantageous include:
  • A Master's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Experience in tailings management and heap leach facility design within the mining sector.
  • A willingness to engage in diverse projects across various business sectors.
  • A passion for fieldwork and travel as necessary for project needs.
