Job Overview

Position Summary:

The primary duty of a Traffic Control Specialist is to manage and direct vehicular movement within construction and maintenance zones. This role involves coordinating traffic flow for roadwork crews. Specialists utilize large orange flags to signal motorists to reduce speed, halt, or proceed through work areas. They often collaborate with fellow specialists positioned at opposite ends of the worksite, using two-way radios or hand signals to ensure smooth traffic management.

Traffic Control Specialists are required to work extended hours in diverse weather conditions, including rain, snow, extreme heat, and cold. The role demands standing for long periods with minimal breaks while maintaining vigilance to ensure the safety of drivers, construction personnel, and themselves.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain constant alertness to surroundings.
  • Lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Position oneself where visibility to approaching vehicles is maximized.
  • Remain standing while directing traffic.
  • Stand for the entire duration of the assigned shift.
  • Utilize appropriate hand signals alongside the STOP/SLOW paddle.

Provided Safety Gear:

  • Hard hat
  • High-visibility clothing, including retro-reflective vests, shirts, or jackets (in colors such as orange, yellow, or fluorescent variants)
  • Sign paddle with a minimum 5-foot staff
  • Steel-toed safety footwear (to be supplied by the employee)

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old and able to provide valid identification and work authorization.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record (no more than 3 points in 2 years, no DUIs).
  • Reliable transportation to and from job sites is essential; travel time compensation is provided.
  • Willingness to work overtime and some weekends.
  • Must successfully pass a drug screening and background check.
  • This position is part of a Union; joining the Union is required.
  • Ability to obtain a Flagger certification card; training will be provided prior to testing.
  • Agile uses E-Verify for employment eligibility verification.
  • Flexible start time at 6:30 am is necessary.
