Landscape Maintenance Specialist

Monday-Friday, 7am - 3:30pm; December 1st - March 31st hours are 3pm - 11:30pm.
SUMMARY
The individual in this role is responsible for the upkeep of the college's outdoor spaces and assists in event preparations through various tasks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
- Adhere to health and safety protocols, including the proper use of protective equipment.
- Mow lawns and perform trimming and edging around pathways, flower beds, and structures.
- Shape and enhance the growth of shrubs and trees through pruning, removing any damaged foliage.
- Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides to lawns, shrubs, and trees; rake and clear leaves and debris.
- Maintain cleanliness of grounds, including walkways, parking areas, building entrances, and athletic fields.
- Collect and dispose of litter and waste materials.
- Clear snow from walkways, driveways, entrances, and fire hydrants.
- Apply ice-melt on public pathways to prevent ice accumulation.
- Plant and care for grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs; ensure proper watering of lawns and flower beds.
- Assist in the maintenance of fences, gates, walls, and pathways.
- Clear drainage systems, including ditches and culverts.
- Utilize a variety of hand tools, power equipment, and vehicles.
- Move furniture and other materials as needed, including setup for events.
- Provide reports on work status, time, and materials used.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn new techniques and practices.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with supervisors, customers, and colleagues.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
- Deliver high-quality customer service consistently.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES when assigned as a refuse-recycling driver:
- Operate various refuse and recycling collection equipment.
- Clean collection points and surrounding areas of loose trash.
- Transport recyclable materials to designated disposal sites.
- Keep equipment clean and maintain operational logs, including fluid levels and tire pressure checks.
- Prepare logs for trash collection and equipment maintenance, reporting any mechanical issues to the supervisor.
- Provide feedback on campus recycling initiatives to the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Successful candidates will possess the ability to perform essential duties effectively. The following qualifications are necessary:
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or GED; one to three months of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Capable of writing routine reports and communicating effectively with groups.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense to follow instructions and solve problems involving concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Driver's License and any required state licenses for herbicide and pesticide application.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires regular standing and walking, with occasional lifting of up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, and moderate noise levels.
HOURLY RATE: $19.77 per hour as per the contract.
