The Respiratory Therapist position requires a strong foundation in respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support services. You will coordinate the provision of respiratory care, plan, develop, and implement respiratory care programs; set up positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy as ordered by physicians, educate patients on proper use of equipment, monitor patient compliance data, and conduct follow-up as per Departmental Policy and Procedures.

To excel in this role, you must possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. You should be proficient in computer applications and have strong organizational skills. Additionally, you should have knowledge of respiratory equipment and be able to adapt to the specific needs of our patients.

Becoming a Respiratory Therapist at Ochsner Health requires a minimum of an Associate's degree from an AMA-approved school of Respiratory Therapy. A Bachelor's degree in Allied Health or a related field is preferred. Experience with Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) and other respiratory home medical equipment is also beneficial.

This role involves regular travel to patient homes to set up and monitor respiratory equipment, which requires reliable transportation. You may also be required to be on-call for patient needs. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will participate in process improvement initiatives, resolve patient issues, communicate with physicians, and serve as a resource on respiratory therapy in the post-acute setting.
