Job Overview:
The primary objective of this role is to enhance emergency communication frameworks and operational systems for public safety and first responder personnel within St. Charles County. As a technical leader and mentor, you will provide multi-tiered engineering and technical support for various communication systems, including the county-wide P25 radio system, IP/MPLS microwave radio network, LAN/WAN infrastructures, mobile data systems, and related technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Oversee routine operational tasks and emergency response activities, including the installation, configuration, provisioning, commissioning, testing, maintenance, and repair of communication and network equipment.
2. Manage work center operations and project initiatives while supervising team members and subcontractors.
3. Ensure optimal performance and monitor the St. Louis Area Trunked Emergency Radio (SLATER) and the county's IP/MPLS network backhaul systems.
4. Conduct incident management and disaster recovery operations, including coordination, dispatching, and system discrepancy analysis for effective problem resolution.
5. Perform audits, preventative maintenance, and corrective actions on all county and customer-owned equipment in line with established standards and guidelines.
6. Assess system performance and provide recommendations to enhance functionality, safety, reliability, and maintenance of the communication infrastructure.
7. Create and modify schematics, diagrams, and documentation to support system performance.
8. Maintain the security of physical and virtual systems, including access control and surveillance systems.
9. Utilize various digital and analog radio communications and network testing equipment.
10. Ensure compliance with safety standards in all work conducted.
11. Collaborate with vendors and contractors for project and maintenance support.
12. Prepare and review RFQ/RFP/Bids as necessary.
13. Conduct hardware/software analysis to evaluate performance characteristics within the existing systems environment.
