Position Overview

The Humane Society of Broward County is actively seeking qualified veterinarians for various positions:

  • Full-time Staff Veterinarian - 4 days per week
  • Part-time Staff Veterinarian - 24 hours/week

The Shelter Veterinarian is responsible for a range of tasks, including routine and specialized surgical procedures, medical treatment of shelter animals, heartworm management, and involvement in our vaccination clinic. This position presents an excellent opportunity for individuals aiming to enhance their surgical capabilities and gain experience in shelter medicine. New graduates are encouraged to apply. Salary is negotiable.

We operate a 33,000 square foot open admissions shelter that provides care for over 5,000 animals each year. Since 1944, we have been dedicated to connecting amazing animals with loving homes. Our mission is to foster a compassionate community of animal advocates, and we take pride in our work and our partnerships.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in veterinary medicine from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed to practice in the state of Florida.
  • Experience in developing, managing, and motivating a team.
  • Proven knowledge in shelter operations, disease management, and animal behavior.
  • Recent and relevant medical and surgical experience.
  • Proficient in computer usage, with experience in Windows-based software and Chameleon/CMS or equivalent integrated shelter management systems.
  • USDA Accreditation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in an animal shelter or non-profit setting is preferred.
