Job Overview

The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics is seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant to join our team in the Oncology service. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide exceptional patient care and work closely with attending physicians to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.

About the Role

This is a full-time position that requires working weekday clinic hours, with occasional weekend or extended work hours as needed. The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as experience in internal medicine or a related field. A demonstrated ability to effectively manage acutely ill patients and provide medical management in an outpatient setting is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

The Physician Assistant will be responsible for providing overall medical care, including diagnostic and therapeutic services, under the direction of the attending physician. This includes initial evaluations of patient symptoms, performing and documenting medical histories and physical examinations, ordering laboratory tests and imaging studies, prescribing medications, and providing health education to patients and their families. The successful candidate will also participate in quality improvement activities, mentor and educate fellows, residents, and PA/medical students, and engage in ongoing research and professional development.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must have a Master's degree from an accredited PA educational program, certification by the NCCPA, and at least 1-3 years of experience in internal medicine or a related field. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, as well as the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
