Job Summary:

The Flagstaff Unified School District is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Custodian/Day Porter to support the safety and cleanliness of our campuses. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining the overall appearance and readiness of our buildings and grounds.

Responsibilities:

• Perform general cleaning and minor maintenance tasks to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors.
• Clean floors, stairs, restrooms, and other areas as needed.
• Empty trash cans and recyclables, and replace liners as necessary.
• Wash windows, doors, and lockers to maintain a clean and attractive appearance.
• Assist with unloading delivery trucks and storing materials as needed.
• Move furniture and equipment, and assemble furniture as required.
• Secure buildings at night by locking doors and windows.
• Direct or report individuals on campus without apparent authorization.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms, and replace light bulbs as needed.
• Set up and take down equipment for events, and assist with grounds maintenance tasks.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• At least six months of experience cleaning large institutions desirable.
• Ability to lift in excess of 70 pounds.
• Pass District background check.
• Must be able to meet the working conditions of the job.
• Committed to following all district guidelines and policies.

Working Conditions:

The Custodian/Day Porter will work in a variety of environments, including indoor classrooms, outdoor areas, and playgrounds. The position requires exposure to all weather conditions and temperatures, as well as contact with the public, employees, children, and parents. The work involves physical exertion and movement, including sitting, moving, reaching, bending, holding, and grasping objects. The position requires climbing a ladder and pushing/pulling/lifting up to 70 pounds. Verbal communication ability is required.

Equipment, Aids, Tools, and Materials:

The Custodian/Day Porter will use cleaning equipment, including wheeled carts, mops, brooms, rags, and cleaning chemicals. The use of power equipment is required, and the District recognizes the ever-changing development of cleaning supplies and materials. The Custodian/Day Porter is expected to keep abreast of changing requirements and use provided equipment and materials.
