Position Objective:

The Settlements Analyst plays a crucial role in ensuring that Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) and Dakota Gasification Company (DGC) maximize the value derived from their resources. This position is responsible for independently managing the confirmation, reconciliation, and settlement of various energy transactions associated with renewable agreements, capacity, and generation. The analyst will conduct thorough evaluations of the calculations related to energy transaction settlements and address any discrepancies that may arise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Examine and confirm the settlement of Purchase Power Agreements (PPA), encompassing both energy and capacity aspects.
  • Oversee the settlement processes for solar and wind purchase power agreements involving multiple counterparties, ensuring accurate validation and provision of calculations for counterparties' confirmation.
  • Deliver precise electric energy transaction data utilizing the Independent System Operator (ISO) settlement system for inclusion in monthly billing statements to counterparties.
  • Foster strong working relationships with traders, counterparties, and various internal departments, including Front, Middle, and Back offices, providing constructive feedback to assist the Marketing group.
  • Contribute to the development of processes and procedures that effectively support the Settlements section within the Controller division.

Qualifications:

Settlements Analyst II:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, mathematics, or a related field, accompanied by three years of progressively complex and technical accounting and finance analyses; or
  • Associate's degree in business, finance, mathematics, or a related field, with five years of increasingly complex and technical accounting and finance analyses.

Settlements Analyst III:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, mathematics, or a related field, with five years of progressively complex and technical accounting and finance analyses; or
  • Associate's degree in business, finance, mathematics, or a related field, with seven years of increasingly complex and technical accounting and finance analyses.

Additional Requirements:

  • Proficient understanding of mathematics and business practices.
  • Preferred experience in the utility/energy sector, settlements, market trading utilizing Energy Trading Risk Management (ETRM) systems, and regulatory reporting or related commodity experience.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and cultivate relationships in a team-oriented environment.
  • Self-driven and proactive, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to resolve discrepancies effectively.
  • Good quantitative, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Able to thrive in a collaborative environment that prioritizes detail, deadlines, and collective achievement of organizational goals.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including queries, pivot tables, and formulas, along with familiarity with other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective information exchange.
