Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Greenhouse Production Leader to join our team at Willoway Nurseries. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our greenhouse production department.

Main Responsibilities

  • Establish and Maintain Daily Huddles: You will establish and maintain daily huddles with other Lead Growers to determine tasks and priorities. Effective communication is essential in this role.
  • Crop Management: You will determine, schedule, and perform watering and fertilizer applications for all crops in your area of responsibility. Additionally, you will determine, schedule, and perform fungicides, insecticides, plant growth regulators, and weed control for assigned crops.
  • Record Keeping: You will record and post all pesticide applications as required by the company and in accordance with State and Federal laws.
  • Pest Control: You will perform or assign scouting of all plant material to ensure pests are being controlled.
  • Plant Maintenance: You will schedule all plant maintenance, including weeding, trimming, spacing, and staking.
  • Daily Plant Care: You will perform daily plant care for assigned crops.
  • Quality and Production: You will maintain plant quality and production levels to maximize margins and profitability.
  • Task Manager: You will use FileMaker Task Manager to schedule important processes and reminders.
  • Nutrient Analysis: You will perform pour-thru testing on crops to help determine nutritional needs and make corrective actions when necessary.
  • Scrap Reduction: You will report scrap on a timely basis, review the reason for scrap, and modify cultural practices, scheduling, and overproduction situations to reduce future scrap.
  • Plant Performance: You will record and review/evaluate plant performance throughout the term of each crop, noting recommendations for changes, improvements, and best management practices for future crops.
  • Irrigation System: You will ensure that the irrigation system, including watering time clocks, electric valves, drips, flooding, and irrigation booms/boomerangs, is programmed and operating properly.
  • Crop Planning: You will be responsible for Fall Mum Other Fall Crops and Poinsettia Plans, as well as initiating liner orders.

Additional Responsibilities

  • To-Do Calendar: You will develop and keep a monthly To Do Calendar updated to aid in planning, prioritizing, and execution of tasks by week/day.
  • Water and Fertilizer Management: You will coordinate the management of water and fertilizer tanks, acid, and fertilizer stock tanks with other Lead Growers.
  • Chemical and Fertilizer Needs: You will determine needs, in advance, for chemicals and fertilizers needed for upcoming and current crops.
  • Biological Applications: You will determine needs for Biological/Predator applications and request that orders be placed with suppliers. You will apply these applications upon arrival.

Safety and Quality Assurance

  • General Cleanliness: You will maintain general cleanliness of production areas, cleaning and disinfecting all areas before new crops are set down.
  • Maintenance and Repairs: You will monitor and report maintenance and repairs on equipment, buildings, greenhouses, etc.
