Role Overview
The Nurse Technician is responsible for delivering exceptional, patient-focused care by executing a range of assigned basic patient care tasks associated with standard nursing duties and daily living activities. Under the guidance of a registered nurse (RN), the Nurse Technician supports the nursing team in providing care tailored to the patient’s needs and the department’s requirements, while consistently helping to maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment for patient care. The Nurse Technician must be currently enrolled and in good standing at an accredited nursing program and is permitted to perform advanced procedures once competency is established.
Key Contributions to the Team
- Engages in the execution of nursing care plans by providing both direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Collects and documents initial and ongoing patient data throughout the care process, including admission information, vital signs, height and weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, blood glucose levels, intake and output, and calorie counts.
- Records observations, interactions, patient reactions to care activities, and any physical or behavioral changes as they occur. Communicates patient observations to the RN/Team Leader.
- Assists with patient mobility through regular repositioning, dangling, and ambulating patients. Aids in the use of mobility aids such as walkers, crutches, canes, and wheelchairs. Facilitates patient transfers and assists with discharges, demonstrating proper body mechanics.
- Provides or assists with non-medicated supportive care, including non-sterile dressing changes, skin protection, application of heat or ice, oxygen delivery, and venous compression devices.
Education and Experience Required
- Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited nursing program
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
