The Tax Compliance Program Manager plays a crucial role in providing expert consultation across the organization regarding tax implications related to compensation, specifically focusing on payroll (W-2) and independent contractor issues. This position oversees the payroll department's adherence to tax reporting and compliance, while also ensuring that the Accounts Payable department meets its 1099 reporting obligations. The Program Manager will address inquiries and resolve challenges presented by these departments. Additionally, this role is tasked with overseeing the organization-wide compliance of partnership tax reporting for CHRISTUS Health, collaborating with external consultants who manage partnership tax compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Exhibit proficiency in the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Engage in regular consultations with HR Payroll representatives regarding payroll tax matters.
- Conduct frequent meetings with Accounts Payable personnel to address independent contractor tax concerns.
- Act as the primary resource for the entire organization on all tax-related compensation inquiries.
- Collaborate with central office accounting teams, internal stakeholders, and external consultants to enhance and standardize partnership tax compliance processes.
- Review partnership tax compliance submissions to ensure uniformity across the organization, aiming for accuracy and thoroughness as expertise develops.
- Provide guidance and training to colleagues within CHRISTUS on compensation-related tax matters as needed.
- Demonstrate the ability to engage with peers and relevant individuals to gather necessary information, consult on compensation functions, and coordinate partnership tax activities.
- Exhibit self-motivation, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively while meeting deadlines.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the System Director of Tax or the Tax Manager.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field is mandatory.
- Proficient in analyzing, researching, and interpreting tax issues related to compensation, with the ability to document and communicate findings effectively.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience with compensation-related tax matters (W-2 and 1099) is essential.
- Prior experience in a CPA firm or similar tax role is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of standard policies and procedures in an accounting or tax department is required.
- Familiarity with advanced Excel spreadsheet functionalities is advantageous.
- Experience with INFOR accounting software systems is a plus.
- Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.
