Job Title: Academic Advisor

Join the Southern Illinois University Carbondale team as an Academic Advisor, providing comprehensive academic advising services to undergraduate students. As a key member of the School of Education, you will play a critical role in supporting student success and fostering a positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Promote an inclusive environment that values and respects all students.
  • Establish relationships with students to facilitate career decision-making during the academic advisement process.
  • Assist students in developing educational plans that relate to their chosen degree program.
  • Help students understand the School of Education's admission and degree requirements, registration process, and administrative processes.
  • Interpret and explain program curricula and prerequisites.
  • Have working knowledge of all degree requirements and prerequisites for assigned degree programs.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree by date of hire; experience within a postsecondary environment; experience in academic advising, mentoring, counseling undergraduate students, or closely related experience.
  • Applicants must also have experience using basic Microsoft Office programs and strong oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using student information systems such as Banner, EAB-Navigate, or SalukiNet.
  • Additional preferred qualifications include experience with degree audit systems such as Degree Works and working collaboratively with diverse populations.
