Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Advanced Practice Provider

We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to join our team at Duke Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality patient care, collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals, and contribute to the development of our clinical programs.
Responsibilities- Care for pediatric and adolescent patients with hematologic and/or oncologic diagnoses.
- Manage outpatient hematology patients, including coordination of follow-up care post-discharge.
- Obtain patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record data in the patient's record.
- Order and schedule laboratory studies, explain necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects to the patient and family.
- Perform procedures, including diagnostic lumbar puncture, intrathecal chemotherapy administration, and bone marrow aspirations/biopsies.
- Complete prior authorizations as needed.
- Participate in triaging of new patient referrals, including coverage when others are out.
- Carry out daily care and continuity for Pediatric Hematology Oncology outpatients.
- Monitor progress of patients, report progress to supervising physician, and maintain record of each patient's progress.
- Participate in basic science and clinical research projects conducted by supervising physician.
- May make work assignments for assigned nurse practitioner or PA students.
- Review the work of lower-rated employees; train new personnel.
- Participate in teaching students and residents in techniques and procedures unique to specific clinical settings.
- Utilize medical decision making to create an individualized patient plan of care.
- Respond to EPIC Maestro Care and telephone messages in a timely fashion.
- Nurse Practitioners: Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
- Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program, with a Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
- BLS required.
- Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.
- Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
- 1+ years of Pediatric or Adult Hematology/Oncology Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, and/or RN work experience.
