Job Summary

We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to join our team at Duke Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality patient care, collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals, and contribute to the development of our clinical programs.

Responsibilities
  • Care for pediatric and adolescent patients with hematologic and/or oncologic diagnoses.
  • Manage outpatient hematology patients, including coordination of follow-up care post-discharge.
  • Obtain patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record data in the patient's record.
  • Order and schedule laboratory studies, explain necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects to the patient and family.
  • Perform procedures, including diagnostic lumbar puncture, intrathecal chemotherapy administration, and bone marrow aspirations/biopsies.
  • Complete prior authorizations as needed.
  • Participate in triaging of new patient referrals, including coverage when others are out.
  • Carry out daily care and continuity for Pediatric Hematology Oncology outpatients.
  • Monitor progress of patients, report progress to supervising physician, and maintain record of each patient's progress.
  • Participate in basic science and clinical research projects conducted by supervising physician.
  • May make work assignments for assigned nurse practitioner or PA students.
  • Review the work of lower-rated employees; train new personnel.
  • Participate in teaching students and residents in techniques and procedures unique to specific clinical settings.
  • Utilize medical decision making to create an individualized patient plan of care.
  • Respond to EPIC Maestro Care and telephone messages in a timely fashion.
Requirements
  • Nurse Practitioners: Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program, with a Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • BLS required.
  • Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.
  • Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ years of Pediatric or Adult Hematology/Oncology Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, and/or RN work experience.
