Position Overview

Role Summary

Become a vital part of a diverse organization dedicated to enhancing the health and wellness of the communities we serve. The UNC Health Care team is seeking a Cardiac Ultrasound Tech.

Position Summary:
A qualified medical professional with both academic knowledge and clinical experience, utilizing imaging technology to assist physicians in diagnosing cardiac conditions. Operates ultrasound machinery to produce dynamic 2-D or 3-D representations of the heart and its chambers.

This role offers an incentive of up to $15,000 for commitment. For further details, please refer to the relevant sections.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conducts echocardiograms that meet consistent diagnostic standards. Produces ultrasound visuals of the heart and associated structures using 2D, M-Mode, Doppler, and Strain techniques.
2. Demonstrates proficiency in administering ultrasound enhancing agents.
3. Provides pre-procedure and post-procedure patient care, including assessment and emergency cardiac care.
4. Completes structured reports for all examinations promptly.
5. Engages in consultations with healthcare providers regarding echocardiograms.
6. Monitors and documents patient information, maintaining report storage and data systems. Compiles and enters data for charge entry and prepares reports for digital archiving. Responsible for retrieving stored information from the automated system.

Additional Information

Educational Qualifications:
● High School Diploma or GED
● Associate degree in Sonography, Radiology, or a related field within three months of hire, or completion of a twelve-month ultrasound program within three months of hire.
Licensure/Certification:
● Basic Life Support (BLS)
● Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International within one year of hire. Maintenance of registry status and continuing education is required annually.
Professional Experience:
● No prior experience necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Proficient in operating sonographic equipment.
● Ability to evaluate echocardiograms to obtain accurate diagnostic information.
● Capacity to adjust workload based on patient needs.
● Ability to exercise independent judgment to gather optimal echocardiogram data during examinations.
● Adherence to established departmental protocols.
● Efficiency in managing emergency situations.
● Comprehensive understanding of echocardiography interpretation and skills.
● Strong communication skills and sensitivity to patient requirements.
● Ability to interpret information to address each patient's specific care needs.
