Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

Under the direct supervision of the supervising Occupational Therapist, the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a vital role in helping patients achieve their rehabilitative goals. The COTA works collaboratively with the occupational therapist to develop and implement treatment plans that cater to the unique needs of each patient.
Key Responsibilities- Carries out components of treatment plans developed by the occupational therapist, ensuring that patients receive the necessary care and support.
- Monitors patients' activities to ensure they are performed correctly and provides encouragement and support as needed.
- Assists in patient assessments, including gathering additional patient information and performing basic physical assessments under the direction of the supervising occupational therapist.
- Instructs patients and their caregivers on how to perform therapeutic exercises and activities safely and effectively at home to support their goals.
- Ensures that therapy equipment is clean, functional, and properly maintained.
- Assists patients in using adaptive equipment, assistive devices, and technology to enhance their independence and safety in daily activities.
- Provides appropriate documentation of the patient's progress for the occupational therapist as well as for the medical records.
- Ensures that documentation is accurate and compliant with billing requirements.
- Current unencumbered Oregon Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license is required.
- BLS certification is required.
- Knowledge of state practice act guidelines and Medicare guidelines is essential.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate with patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to remain calm in emergency or crisis situations.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with people in close situations.
- Strong organizational and prioritization ability.
- Multitasking and time management skills are critical to performance of the role.
This role requires working in a fast-paced healthcare environment, interacting with patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. The ability to work effectively in a team setting and communicate clearly is essential.
