Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisory Photographer to join our team at the National Gallery of Art. As a key member of our Imaging department, you will be responsible for overseeing the 3D imaging operations and coordinating the 3D Image Modeling Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and coordinate the new 3D imaging operations of the Imaging department.
  • Plan and execute a multipurpose 3D modeling studio designed for NGA collection imaging of objects.
  • Oversight of all aspects of the 3D Imaging program.
  • Work in a studio setting and in various locations indoors, using a variety of digital cameras, lenses, and lighting equipment.
  • Act as trainer, mentor, and partner for selected photography staff within the Imaging department.
  • Schedule and coordinate the testing of 3D Imaging software and photographic equipment.
  • Maintain necessary levels of technical knowledge and produce highly accurate digital imaging work within deadlines.
  • Perform the full range of supervisory responsibility, including providing technical and administrative supervision to staff, maintaining an organizational environment that positively influences employee opportunity to deliver high-quality products and services, and establishing guidelines and performance expectations for staff members.
Requirements
  • Minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the next lower grade or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector.
  • Mastery knowledge and demonstrated experience shooting works of art as 3D models or other training in all aspects of 3D imaging and color-managed workflows.
  • Mastery knowledge of color correction techniques, layer management strategies, alpha channel creation, sharpening options, and the correct use of image selection tools.
  • Thorough knowledge of the objects to be photographed, including an understanding of the fragile nature of a print, drawing, painting, or object.
  • Knowledge of being a supervisor and a trainer in straight 3D photography as well as 3D modeling objects in full 360-degree circles.
Working Conditions

The work is primarily sedentary, and the incumbent may frequently walk to other offices in the East and West Buildings.
