Job Summary:

This position is responsible for providing nutrition education and services to eligible participants in the New Mexico WIC Program. The Nutrition Specialist will assess participants' nutrition risk, prescribe food packages, and provide one-on-one and group nutrition education, including breastfeeding promotion and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess participants' nutrition risk and prescribe food packages
  • Provide one-on-one and group nutrition education, including breastfeeding promotion and support
  • Identify the need for individual care plans and implement them for low-risk participants
  • Refer participants to other health and social services and provide appropriate follow-up
  • Document nutrition services provided, including referral and follow-up

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a social, community, health, education, or nutritional field
  • Two years of experience in entering and retrieving data from multiple information systems, providing direct nutrition services to clients, and collaborating with other organizations
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish

Working Conditions:

This position is performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/video display terminal and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Extended periods of driving and the ability to lift up to fifty pounds may be required. Potential exposure to communicable diseases and moderate office noise, heat, cold, and smells.
