We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Probation and Parole Officer to join our team at the State of Montana. As a key member of our correctional services team, you will play a critical role in managing the correctional population, promoting public safety, and encouraging offenders to make positive life-changing decisions.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct pre-sentence investigations and make placement recommendations concerning offenders sentenced to the Department of Corrections.
- Supervise and counsel offenders, utilizing investigative skills, knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations, and behavioral science principles.
- Develop and implement rehabilitation and treatment plans, conditions of probation, and recommendations for incarceration or community supervision.
- Investigate alleged violations of probation or parole, utilizing knowledge of policies and procedures, and testify in district court and information hearings.
- Collaborate with other criminal justice agencies and community resources to provide support and services to offenders.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree in a related field preferred.
- Formal training in behavioral sciences and experience in corrections, law enforcement, or social work.
- Ability to work varying schedules, including nights and weekends, and be available 24/7 for emergency situations.
- Valid Montana driver's license and ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
- POST Basic Certification required within one year of employment.
