Job Summary

Ascension Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to coordinate a centralized bed management system, facilitating efficient admissions and transfers, and optimizing occupancy to avoid delays in service. The ideal candidate will communicate with clinical staff to determine the status of pending discharges, transfers, and bed availability, and plan bed assignments accordingly. This role requires reviewing all admissions and transfers for clinical/unit appropriateness and medical necessity, taking appropriate action when criteria are not met or resources are not available. The successful candidate will provide direction and support to admissions coordinators to ensure efficient patient access and flow, analyze bed management data, identify issues, and prepare reports for executive review.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate a centralized bed management system to facilitate efficient admissions and transfers, optimize occupancy, and avoid delays in service.
  • Communicate with clinical staff to determine the status of pending discharges, transfers, and bed availability, and plan bed assignments accordingly.
  • Review all admissions and transfers for clinical/unit appropriateness and medical necessity, taking appropriate action when criteria are not met or resources are not available.
  • Provide direction and support to admissions coordinators to ensure efficient patient access and flow.
  • Analyze bed management data, identify issues, and prepare reports for executive review.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse credentialed from the Illinois Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education

  • Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing OR Required professional licensure at time of hire.

Additional Preferences

  • Nursing degree, RN, for triage, crisis management, and behavioral health admissions.
  • 12 hours shifts, 7:00AM-7:30PM, 2 shifts per week at ABBHH intake department.
