POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a dedicated Pharmaceutical Care Technician to play a crucial role in monitoring and ensuring that clients adhere to their prescribed psychotropic medications. This position involves overseeing personal care, medication management, treatment, and various nursing tasks for designated clients, as permitted by our organizational policies. The technician will work within a program that offers mandated treatment and supervision for individuals transitioning from state hospital settings in a 90-day forensic unlocked residential environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure clients are compliant with their prescribed psychotropic medications and accurately document administration in the electronic health record system.
  • Receive and verify new medications against physician orders.
  • Safely dispose of any discontinued medications.
  • Administer PRN medications as required.
  • Manage the ordering, receiving, and stocking of supplies in the medication room.
  • Assist in conducting medication audits to guarantee accuracy.
  • Gather data related to medication orders and deliveries.
  • Generate reports to monitor medication administration and promptly inform the Medical Services Manager of any discrepancies.
  • Maintain a well-organized and efficient medication room, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Provide support during crisis situations as necessary.
  • Observe and document client behavior and activities, noting any changes in their condition.
  • Engage in team meetings, training sessions, and other scheduled gatherings.
  • Support the treatment team in coordinating emergency transportation for psychiatric and medical crises.
  • Report any safety concerns, maintenance issues, and housekeeping needs to administrative personnel.
  • Uphold the confidentiality of all client information.
  • Be knowledgeable about facility emergency codes and response protocols.
  • Maintain a professional and objective relationship with clients at all times.
  • Contribute suggestions regarding policies, procedures, and safety to administrative staff.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in paraprofessional counseling or psychiatric nursing is required.
  • Experience working with mentally ill populations is essential.
  • Familiarity with behavioral intervention techniques.
  • Academic background in Behavioral Sciences is preferred.
  • Experience with mentally ill and/or forensic populations is a plus.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is highly desirable.
  • Note: Any required certifications/licenses must be obtained within 180 days of employment.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Students in Nursing, Pharmacy, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Medical Assistant programs with medication training.
  • Preferred Education: Associate's degree (AA) in nursing or a BA/BS in psychology, social work, or a related field. Pharmacy Technician Certification, Medical Assistant Certification, or nursing training with a collegiate degree (AA).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must successfully pass background checks from the Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and Community Care Licensing (CCL).
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's license.
  • Clearance for tuberculosis (TB).
  • Driving record must meet insurance carrier standards.
  • Completion of Fire and Safety Training*.
  • First Aid Training Certification*.
  • CPR Certification*.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI)**.

Note: Any required certifications/licenses must be obtained within 180 days of employment.

*Training must be completed within 30 days from the date of hire on a designated date provided by onboarding. Staff must achieve certification at the appropriate level for their role to fulfill job responsibilities (staff will be removed from the schedule if certification is not obtained).
