Job Overview

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

Under the guidance of a licensed Physical Therapist, the Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant (RTA) is responsible for implementing treatment plans and providing exercise instruction to patients.

COLLABORATION

This role primarily collaborates with: administrative staff, medical professionals, team members from both clinical and non-clinical departments, patients, and their families.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Physical Therapist during patient assessments, evaluations, and intricate procedures.
  • Execute a tailored program of rehabilitative exercises and treatments for designated patients, as outlined by the Physical Therapist's evaluation.
  • Guide patients on the use of mobility aids such as wheelchairs, crutches, canes, braces, and prosthetic devices.
  • Administer physical therapy interventions according to the established care plan.
  • Utilize therapeutic modalities as prescribed.
  • Prepare treatment spaces, patients, and necessary equipment for therapy sessions.
  • Track patient progress and report any changes to the supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Oversee the activities of physical therapy aides.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Document treatment activities as required by professional standards and departmental policies.
  • Assist in maintaining departmental records and documentation.
  • Support the upkeep and management of departmental equipment and supplies.
  • Participate in training sessions for medical and nursing staff on physical therapy practices and objectives.
  • Adhere to established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, and quality assurance standards.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to all patients and visitors.
  • Uphold confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues to achieve departmental goals and maintain positive employee relations.
  • Exhibit professionalism in appearance, communication, and behavior during all interactions.
  • Address practical challenges, interpret various instructions, and solve problems as they arise.
  • Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Familiarity with standard office equipment including computers, telephones, fax machines, copiers, scanners, printers, and calculators.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate's degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Must hold a valid license as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the State of Texas.
  • BLS Certification is mandatory.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Preferred two years of experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant; however, new graduates are welcome to apply.

PERSONAL SKILLS:

  • Commitment to quality and patient safety is essential.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English; bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic medical records.
  • Ability to adapt to change, prioritize tasks, manage stress, and communicate effectively.
  • Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent time management abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a courteous demeanor with patients.
  • Physical capability to perform job duties safely.
