Job Summary

UConn Health is seeking a highly skilled Radiation Therapy Technologist to join our Radiation Oncology team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality radiation therapy treatments to patients, working closely with our multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless care delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently perform radiation treatments and procedures as prescribed in treatment plans, accurately, timely, and effectively.
  • Participate in conferences with the treatment team to review and discuss patient issues, such as history, diagnostic studies, disease state, and treatment type.
  • Review prescription diagnoses, patient charts, and identification.
  • Prepare treatment rooms and equipment, including immobilizations, treatments, and protection devices.
  • Position patients according to prescription.
  • Explain procedures to patients at their level of understanding and reassure them during treatment.
  • Report unusual reactions to physicians.
  • Consult with members of the team and other supportive care personnel.
  • Monitor accessory and equipment attached to patients and report any malfunctions.
  • Document treatment administered, equipment control settings, unusual reactions, and any changes to prescribed treatment.
  • Photograph treated areas of patients.
  • Maintain records, reports, and files as required.
  • Communicate information to appropriate personnel regarding patient progress, including emotional status and other factors.
  • Recognize emergency situations and activate response.
  • Follow principles of radiation protection for patients, self, and others, and adhere to UConn Health's patient safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Perform quality control and participate in the department's quality assurance programs.
  • May train therapy students or others as assigned.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies and inventory controls.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an ARRT-approved two-year certificate program or Associates Degree program in radiation therapy.
  • Certification and registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or eligibility.
  • License to perform radiography in the State of Connecticut.
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.
Working Conditions

Works in an area requiring use of established safety guidelines, may be exposed to radioactive sources and vapors. Considerable standing, walking, and lifting and transferring of patients is required. Ability to lift at least 30 pounds. Stress related to daily interaction with clients and families coping with life-threatening illness.

Schedule: Full-time position, 40 hours weekly, Monday - Friday, 1st shift.
