Compensation Range - $22.00 per hour
Position Overview:
The role of the Financial Counselor is essential in adhering to protocols for financial guidance, assistance, and collection practices for all necessary medical services, ensuring accessibility for every patient.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage daily financial counseling operations, including:
- Scheduling consultations and new procedures
- Conducting verification of benefits and providing cost estimates
- Collecting payments at the time of service
- Assisting patients with financial aid applications
- Facilitating Medicaid/Medi-Cal applications
- Coordinating with collection partners for payment plans and financing options
- Monitoring and collecting outstanding patient balances
- Completing applications for assistance and patient support programs as needed
- Tracking all financial assistance applications in the designated system
- Maximizing assistance for patients based on their coverage requirements
- Educating patients about their insurance and available assistance options
- Conducting outreach campaigns for patient education during enrollment periods
- Initiating and managing charity care applications in accordance with company policy
- Collaborating with onsite financial counselors, patient navigators, front office, and clinical staff to ensure an efficient collection process
- Maintaining monthly key performance indicators both individually and as part of a team
- Submitting monthly KPI reports to management punctually
- Exhibiting regular attendance and punctuality
- Flexibility to work varying schedules as needed
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in a medical office environment dealing with insurance, coding, and financial matters
- Familiarity with medical terminology, including ICD-9 and CPT codes
- Strong communication skills, financial assessment capabilities, advocacy, and crisis management skills within established guidelines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Associate's Degree or a comparable combination of education and experience
- At least 1 year of experience in financial counseling or budget/credit analysis and counseling
Demonstrated sound judgment, reliability, and conscientious work ethic. Detail-oriented with exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities. Compassionate and empathetic with high ethical standards. Capable of operating complex equipment with manual dexterity.
