Job Title: Port Engineer - Towing Operations

This position is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repairs, and modifications of assigned equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies. The Port Engineer will supervise maintenance personnel, evaluate their technical skills, and monitor schedules and budgets for active equipment work.

Responsibilities:
  • Establish and implement preventative and routine maintenance procedures.
  • Act as a technical advisor to ensure maintenance and repairs are completed correctly and safely.
  • Supervise maintenance personnel and evaluate their technical skills.
  • Monitor schedules and budgets for active equipment work.
  • Collect and maintain equipment records.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting maintenance and capital budgets for assigned equipment.
  • Coordinate maintenance work with Yard Supervisors and outside vendors.
  • Generate purchase requisitions for parts and vendor services.
  • Generate work orders and AFEs (Authorization for Expenditure).
  • Frequent jobsite visits and inspections.
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in heavy construction equipment field.
  • 3+ years of experience with cranes.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience.
Preferred Knowledge:
  • Diesel engines.
  • Hydraulic systems.
  • Air systems.
  • Crane controls.
  • Friction and hydraulic hoists.
  • AC/DC generators and electric motors.
Required Certifications or Licenses:
  • Driver's License.
  • TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to tolerate working on the water, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels.
  • Ability to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies, and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, and lift for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work at heights, climb ladders, and stairways, and work from platforms.
  • Ability to work outside in the elements, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind, for periods of up to 12 hours a day.

  • Regular, reliable attendance.
  • Work productively and meet deadlines timely.
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.
  • Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
