Job Title: Respiratory Therapist

At The University of Chicago Medicine, we are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our Pediatrics team. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the advancement of medical innovation.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a Respiratory Therapist to administer respiratory care treatments, procedures, and protocols under the direct supervision of department leadership and physician. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in respiratory care and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer supplemental oxygen/medical gas therapy as prescribed by direct physician order or via established and approved departmental patient care protocols.
  • Initiate and maintain non-invasive ventilation (NIV) procedures on an emergent and non-emergent basis.
  • Provide for ventilator management and hemodynamic monitoring/reporting of patient parameters.
  • Perform Arterial Blood Gas analysis per hospital, department, and accrediting agency guidelines and standards of practice.
  • Provide for patient transport within the facility when patients are transported to other areas on oxygen delivery systems, mechanical ventilators, etc.
Requirements:
  • An Associate's degree or higher from an approved & accredited Respiratory Care Program.
  • An active certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • A current Respiratory Care Practitioner license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to obtain said license prior to start.
  • An active Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
