Job Summary

Washington Vocational Services is seeking a skilled and compassionate Transition Class Instructor to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in providing post-secondary transition and education services to students with cognitive and/or physical disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and implement effective curriculum to meet the needs of our students.
  • Develop and maintain annual class calendars to ensure a smooth and organized learning environment.
  • Teach basic job-related skills in small groups and one-on-one settings, including appropriate dress, hygiene, interview skills, and work habits.
  • Design and deliver Life Skills and work skill-building programs, including meal preparation, sorting, filing, delivery, and pick-up of materials.
  • Collaborate with the IEP Coordinator to evaluate student strengths and needs.
  • Identify and plan Community-Based Learning Experiences (CBLEs) tailored to individual abilities.
  • Accompany students to community job or volunteer sites to promote real-world learning.
  • Schedule classroom aids and Transition Coaches to ensure adequate support.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and quality of services provided, ensuring compliance with CARF and contract standards.
  • Design and lead classroom instruction, incorporating data collection and record-keeping processes.
  • Oversee customer plans and progress, operating within budget constraints.
  • Establish quality assurance processes to ensure compliance with contract and CARF regulations.
  • Prepare for, participate in, and respond to Program Audits and Reviews.
  • Network and market services in all communities served, fostering positive relationships with clients, employees, and vendors.
  • Maintain accurate records for billing purposes, preparing monthly billing and quarterly/year-end reports.
  • Plan and facilitate parent meetings, including guest speakers and classroom newsletters.
Requirements
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Special Education, or Social Work, or equivalent experience working with developmentally disabled individuals.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification required.
  • Preferred experience in writing and following curriculum.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to teach in small groups and one-on-one settings.
  • Ability to motivate, direct the work of others, and identify the best people for the job.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must understand and demonstrate the importance of ethical considerations in the field of human services.
  • Ability to pass Washington State Background check, SDHS background check, or other required background checks.
  • Possess and maintain a current Driver's license and retain auto insurance as required by law.
  • Ability to provide own transportation.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, and sitting, with occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • May assist clients with toileting needs.
  • Office environment is well-lit, well-equipped, with low to moderate noise levels.
