Position Summary
The Cashier plays a vital role in the financial operations of the hospital, ensuring accurate collection and management of patient fees and related transactions. This position is essential for maintaining the integrity of financial data and facilitating smooth patient discharges.

Key Responsibilities
The Cashier is responsible for:
• Collecting payments from patients and performing daily reconciliations in the designated cashier area.
• Verifying patient information, including insurance and demographic details, in the financial system and referring discrepancies to appropriate departments.
• Reviewing self-pay accounts daily and directing non-compliant patients to financial counseling.
• Processing various payment methods for medical services and ensuring accurate record-keeping.
• Preparing daily deposits for checks and cash received, including electronic deposits using designated banking tools.
• Distributing Medicaid Metro-Cards to eligible patients and maintaining accurate records of distribution.
• Coordinating transportation requests for discharged patients, including insurance verification and data entry into the transportation portal.
• Upholding the mission, vision, and values of NYC Health + Hospitals in all duties performed.

Qualifications
1. A high school diploma or equivalent, along with one year of full-time experience in cash handling roles such as cashier, bank teller, or similar positions; or
2. Two years of relevant experience as outlined above; or
3. Equivalent education and/or experience.
All candidates must possess at least one year of full-time experience in cash handling.

Preferred Skills
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Proficiency in computer applications for daily tasks.
• Competence in data entry and basic mathematical calculations.
