Position Overview

Facilitates the legal representation of defendants who speak Spanish by providing translation services during consultations and converting written materials between Spanish and English.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Translates discussions between legal counsel and clients from English to Spanish and vice versa.
  • Provides verbatim translations during legal proceedings, including plea agreements, competency hearings, and contested cases.
  • Ensures accurate translation during jury trials, maintaining the integrity of the original dialogue.
  • Translates legal documents from English to Spanish to assist Spanish-speaking clients effectively.
  • Drafts, composes, and types various legal documents as required.
  • Coordinates communication with family members of defendants and witnesses via telephone.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in English, Spanish, Liberal Arts, or a related field, along with a minimum of one year of experience in legal interpretation.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:
Fluency in both English and Spanish is required, with the ability to read, write, speak, and translate effectively. Familiarity with criminal law and legal terminology is essential.

Work Environment:
This position is typically performed in a standard office setting.
