Job Summary

The Head Cashier is a key member of our retail team, responsible for ensuring seamless customer transactions and providing excellent customer service. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Service
    • Project a positive image of Westlake Ace Hardware at all times.
    • Greet customers warmly and thank them by name whenever possible.
    • Ensure excellent customer service from those supervised.
    • Respond promptly and courteously to customer inquiries and concerns.
    • Communicate effectively with customers to resolve issues and provide solutions.
  • Register Operations
    • Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently.
    • Balance the register drawer at the end of each shift.
    • Adhere to all cash handling procedures and policies.
    • Assist with register and computer problems, downloads, and upgrades as needed.
  • Cash Room Operations
    • Verify cashier-balancing procedures are followed in the absence of the Assistant Manager-Operations.
    • Verify deposit procedures and policies are followed on a daily basis.
    • Assist with preparing deposits, long/short recaps, and sales audits.
    • Verify weekend vault counts and randomly verify vault.
  • Office Operations
    • Provide assistance to the Assistant Manager-Operations in completing office duties, including receiving, invoices, purchase orders, and inventory adjustments.
  • Audit
    • Assist the Assistant Manager-Operations with completing the quarterly audit checklist as needed.
    • Observe cashiers for proper phone etiquette, greeting customers, handling returns correctly, and treating customers attentively.
  • Front End Appearance and Upkeep
    • Maintain a clean and organized front end at all times.
    • Face and dust front end displays.
    • Keep impulse counters stocked and faced.
    • Rotate fresh merchandise as seasons change.
    • Ensure fresh ads are stocked in shopping carts at all times.
    • Stock forms and supplies at all times.
    • Assist with decorating the front end according to the Store Support Center program.
    • Call for cart pickups when necessary.
  • Leadership
    • Communicate merchandising, cost control, or sales ideas to the General Manager for follow-up.
    • Participate in store and cashier meetings.
    • Assist with training and development of new cashiers.
    • Work with the Assistant Manager-Operations to prepare for advancement opportunities.
    Requirements
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Experience in retail and/or office management preferred.
    • Cashier experience preferred.
    • Customer service experience preferred.
    • Ability to stand, walk, lift up to 25 pounds, and climb.
    Compensation

Starting hourly rate: $18.00
