Job Overview

Estes Forwarding Worldwide (EFW) is a leading domestic and international freight forwarder, providing customized logistics and warehousing solutions. As a CDL-A Truck Driver Drayage, you will be responsible for transporting international and domestic containers between railroads, ports, and warehouses, adhering to Company, Federal, State, and Local laws, as well as FMCSA regulations.



Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Transporting freight between railroads, ports, and warehouses
  • Performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure safe working conditions
  • Operating manual transmission vehicles, chaining tires, and driving in various terrain and environmental conditions
  • Conducting safety functions, including operating in-cab technology, electronic logs, and other items
  • Driving different schedules and working the dock based on business needs
  • Checking gauges and visual indicators for malfunctions and ensuring seal or lock on trailers
  • Maintaining records required for compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Complying with all requirements for safe and legal transportation of hazardous materials
  • Ensuring security of equipment and cargo
  • Promptly reporting all maintenance problems to Fleet Services and/or supervision
  • Verifying unit numbers versus paperwork given and reporting any discrepancies to your supervisor
  • Providing professional and courteous service to customers and the general public
  • Assisting with dock work, including loading/unloading freight, and over-the-road runs
  • Complying with company C-TPAT and TSA security procedures

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Be registered with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse
  • Be able to drive a tractor trailer for a period of time conforming to FMCSA requirements
  • Have the ability to operate a forklift (minimum 7,500 lb. vehicle)
  • Be capable of dropping/hooking and coupling trailers, which involves cranking landing gear, pulling 5th wheel pin, and maneuvering a trailer dolly
  • Be able to drive all routes and in all types of terrain, including mountains, steep inclined roads, curvy highways, desert areas, bridges, tunnels, etc.
  • Be able to operate all safety and operational functions of equipment, including chaining tires, driving manual transmission vehicles, etc.
  • Have an acceptable MVR
  • Be 25 years of age and have a minimum of two years consecutive driving experience
  • Be familiar with state motor vehicle laws and FMCSA rules and regulations
  • Pass a road test
  • Be able to read and interpret general business documents
  • Be able to write routine reports and general business correspondence
  • Be able to work with peers and communicate basic concepts
  • Be able to solve practical problems through standardized solutions that require limited judgment
  • Be able to follow prescribed and detailed procedures to solve routine problems
  • Pass a pre-employment FMCSA medical exam and drug screen, random drug and/or alcohol tests, and be subject to a criminal history background check
  • Be eligible to work in the United States

Minimum of a High School Diploma is required. A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License, HazMat, Tanker, and Doubles endorsements are preferred (LCV requirements may apply). Periodic travel up to 90% is required. The physical demands of this job include lifting and/or moving a minimum of 70 lbs, specific vision abilities, and the ability to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.


The work environment characteristics include working near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and various weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment ranges from quiet to loud as required by the essential functions of the job.
