Position Overview: The Feed Ingredient Procurement Specialist plays a crucial role in overseeing the acquisition and sourcing of essential raw materials, such as corn and soybean, for proprietary feed formulations. This position is vital in ensuring the consistent availability and timely transportation of ingredients to production facilities, aligning with customer demands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and execute sourcing strategies for bulk feed ingredients, guaranteeing quality and competitive pricing.
  • Lead negotiations to secure optimal pricing and terms with suppliers.
  • Maintain sufficient inventory levels to support production needs across various facilities.
  • Build and nurture strategic partnerships with trading entities, brokers, producers, and logistics providers.
  • Ensure the prompt and cost-effective delivery of feed ingredients to production sites.
  • Oversee logistics coordination for inbound shipments and delivery instructions.
  • Manage demurrage and delayed delivery costs, providing updates to senior management as necessary.
  • Supervise the soybean meal claims process, addressing unexpected variances as required.
  • Implement and monitor quality assurance processes to maintain supplier performance.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the procurement team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
  • Mentor team members, offering technical and professional development support.
  • Maintain effective communication with all stakeholders to ensure operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Perform additional relevant duties as assigned by senior management.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • This role requires strong leadership competencies, including assessing talent, delegation, strategic planning, customer focus, and conflict resolution.

Education and Certifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in business, finance, supply chain management, procurement, agriculture, or a related field from an accredited institution.

Experience and Skills:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in agricultural commodity procurement.
  • Knowledge of agricultural commodity price risk management and derivative hedging.
  • Experience in navigating dynamic business environments where price stability and supply availability are critical.
  • Expertise in strategic sourcing, including comprehensive strategy development.
  • Strong customer service orientation with effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational abilities with a focus on prioritization and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated individual with a sense of urgency and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, diverse team environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Effective communicator with the ability to engage with all organizational levels; multilingual capabilities are a plus.
  • Ability to address and resolve issues efficiently while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills with a focus on project prioritization and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Possess a customer-centric mindset, high energy, and a strong sense of urgency.
