POSITION: Sanitation Specialist

REPORTS TO: Custodial Services Supervisor

SUMMARY

The Sanitation Specialist is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in designated facilities through the execution of various tasks, including but not limited to:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Additional duties may be assigned:

  • Thoroughly sweeps, mops, scrubs, or otherwise cleans windows, offices, breakrooms, hallways, restrooms, and public areas as required.
  • Operates floor cleaning equipment, vacuums, and other cleaning machinery.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of cleaning supplies.
  • Refills soap and paper dispensers as necessary.
  • Disposes of trash and waste materials appropriately.
  • Alerts supervision regarding the need for repairs to building or cleaning equipment.
  • Performs errands as needed.
  • Engages in Total Quality Management initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

To succeed in this position, an individual must be capable of performing each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read a limited number of two and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and series of numbers. Ability to print and articulate simple sentences.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide by 10's and 100's.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions. Ability to address problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While executing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
