Staff System Design Engineer

Since 2009, our team has worked tirelessly to make this vision a reality, designing and testing multiple generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis.
We're seeking a highly organized and passionate individual to join our test team to aid in the development of test systems that validate flight hardware and aircraft systems.
Responsibilities- Develop hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test systems for software, mechanical, electrical, and energy-component testing/validation of aircraft line replaceable units (LRUs), sub-systems, and full aircraft systems.
- Work closely with the aircraft design team to develop test system requirements and capture the nuances of aircraft components, subsystem architectures, and operational environments.
- Design systems from first principles capable of testing aircraft LRUs/Systems, replicating loads/environment sustained during nominal missions and extreme limit/ultimate testing scenarios.
- Create and manage formal test system documentation, including design analysis, mechanical/electrical drawing packages, bill of materials (BOMs), and assembly instructions.
- Build and integrate the system per formal documentation, tracking all changes made throughout the system life cycle.
- Assist the Test Engineering team in drafting formal test procedures, instrumentation guidelines, test fixture designs, software user interfaces (UIs), and other necessary tools for representative testing of hardware.
- Support structural, environmental, and functional tests on specific hardware to validate LRU/System design and manufacturing against aircraft design specifications.
- Prepare, support, and guide the work of Test Engineers, Assembly and Test Technicians supporting development activities.
- B.S. or M.S. degree in a relevant field, with 4+ years of experience or equivalent relevant experience.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with a strong analytical background and hands-on approach.
- Experience developing HIL test systems, data acquisition and control systems, and analytical, data analysis, and/or model-based system engineering (MBSE) design tools.
- Proficiency in laboratory environments, common instrumentation, and mechanical design, computer-aided design (CAD) software, and manufacturing drawing creation.
- Strong communication and social skills, with the ability to work with diverse teams and manage working relationships.
- M.S./Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, with 6+ years of work experience in the relevant industry.
- Experience with electro-mechanical and/or hydro-mechanical system design and development, liquid thermal control loops, high-voltage and industrial electronics.
- Proficiency in Dassault Systemes CAD, MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, and Python, as well as aircraft certification, regulatory requirements, compliance testing, and test verification.
