Job Title: Prevention Specialist

Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch is seeking a skilled Prevention Specialist to join our team. As a Prevention Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing substance psychoeducation to youth in the school setting, using approved curriculum to prevent substance use and addiction.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide substance prevention services to youth in schools partnered with YBGR.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of substance use and addiction impacts on brain development and human health.
  • Document prevention services and comply with department and agency procedures and policies.
  • Collaborate with Licensed Addiction Counselors (LACs) and school administration.
  • Contribute to agency strategic goals and outcomes, participating in Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) goals.
  • Support and model YBGR's mission and values.
  • Adhere to organization policies, systems, safety requirements, and procedures.
  • Take initiative to identify problems and seek solutions.
  • Represent the organization professionally to external stakeholders.
  • Participate in monthly supervision/coaching meetings.
  • Be aware of cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients.
  • Participate in required training.
Qualifications:
  • 21 years old or older.
  • Criminal/Child Abuse Clearance: Pass background check as required by the State of Montana.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • License to operate a passenger vehicle.

  • Effective interaction and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate values of Faith, Integrity, Relationship, and Stewardship.
  • Willingness to obtain certification in First Aid/CPR and Violence Intervention Prevention.
Physical/Environmental Demands:
  1. Work environment: Indoor climate-controlled environment with occasional outdoor work.
  2. Stationary position for extended periods while performing administrative duties.
  3. Frequent computer, keyboard, and office equipment operation.
  4. Consistent movement within the building and outdoor terrain.
  5. Occasional physical restraint of youth.
  6. Constant communication with clients, treatment team, and others.
  7. Perception, recognition, and observation of client behavior.
  8. High-stress conditions during de-escalation or restraint of physically out of control youth.
  9. Occasional driving to other YBGR locations.
