Job Title: Engineering Technician

Join the City of Sanibel, FL team as an Engineering Technician and contribute to the development and implementation of engineering projects that enhance the city's infrastructure and services.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineering Technician to support our engineering team in the design, development, and implementation of engineering projects. The successful candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering, surveying, and technical drafting, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and field investigations to collect and record data for engineering projects.
  • Prepare engineering design sketches, plans, and maps, as well as cost estimates and specifications.
  • Collaborate with developers, contractors, engineers, and the public to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Perform CAD drawings for routine to complex civil engineering projects.
  • Conduct field surveys, including topographic surveys, layout, and grade staking.
  • Prepare construction design specifications, bid specifications, and material and cost estimates.
  • Provide technical assistance in procuring permits and preparing project grant applications.
  • Coordinate the DEP NPDES program and collect data from City departments.
  • Manage projects and perform inspections related to construction improvements and maintenance of streets, sewers, and other infrastructure.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or Associates of Science Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, supplemented by relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering, surveying, and technical drafting principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD drafting and GIS or other technical mapping systems.
