Job Overview

SCA Health is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Payment Specialist to join our team.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be able to work accurately and efficiently, and have a basic knowledge of medical terminology.

As a Medical Payment Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring payments and adjustments are accurately recorded in the patient accounting system daily.

You will utilize payer contracts loaded in the patient accounting system and/or hard contract copies to ensure appropriate payment received.

Key responsibilities include possessing basic knowledge of medical terminology, health insurance billing, typing, word processing, spreadsheet, and computer billing systems.

You will also possess accurate judgment, especially handling insurance claims and dealing with patient accounts.

Additional responsibilities include being versatile and willing to coordinate with and participate in all other aspects of the Business Office.

You will need to possess strong initiative to get daily work finished and processed, communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other staff members, and maintain regular attendance.

A Medical Payment Specialist at SCA Health will handle confidential information, set priorities, and work independently.

They will interact positively with patients, families, coworkers, supervisors, and other facility employees.

Other key responsibilities include entering data into computers, filing large amounts of paper, using office equipment, and using discretion when dealing with the public.

You will also need to accurately and efficiently post payments and adjustments – balancing daily.

A Medical Payment Specialist must understand the importance of HIPAA within a medical facility and demonstrate professionalism when communicating with patients, physicians, and teammates.

Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent;
  • Prior payment posting experience highly desired;
  • 2 or more years of clerical experience in a healthcare environment preferred;
  • Must be personable, friendly, and exhibit flexibility and positive interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent communication skills MANDATORY;
  • Computer experience, HST, Excel, Word;
  • Medical terminology knowledge required.

Estimated Salary Range: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
