Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The role involves assisting in Urgent Care to provide essential support for healthcare providers in various aspects of patient management under the guidance of a physician, physician's assistant, nurse practitioner, or licensed nurse, ensuring that the specific needs of patients seeking care are met effectively.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent; completion of a Certified Medical Assistant Program is mandatory.

Experience: A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an emergency department, urgent care, or similar clinical environment is required.

Skills and Abilities: The following skills are essential for success in this position:

  • Proficient in performing accurate blood drawing techniques.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to shifting schedules.
  • Strong interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Quick thinking with the ability to relate to all levels of staff and patients.
  • Team-oriented and energetic with excellent customer service skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity is essential.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) and the ability to learn new technologies quickly.

License(s)/Certification(s) Required:

  • Certification from a Medical Assistant Training program.
  • CPR Certification.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct patient intake procedures, including measuring blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, and other vital signs.
  • Accurately document chief complaints, vital signs, weight, brief medical history, and other relevant information.
  • Perform diagnostic tests such as blood glucose tests, urine dipsticks, pulse oximetry, vision tests, hearing screens, and EKGs.
  • Alert the Provider and/or Clinic Nurse Coordinator of any abnormal findings in vital signs or test results.
  • Complete assigned tasks under licensed supervision, including eye lavages, ear irrigation, and removal of sutures or staples.
  • Administer medications and immunizations as directed.
  • Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness and proper stocking of supplies; perform sterilization of instruments.
  • Follow infection control and safety protocols while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Handle general office procedures, including venipunctures, dressing changes, and nebulizer treatments.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment without interpreting the results.
  • Provide CPR and first aid during emergencies.
  • Ensure all equipment is functioning properly and report any issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, which may include travel to various sites as needed.
