Job Title: Dental Hygienist II

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Dental Hygienist II to join our team at Alamance County, NC. As a key member of our public health team, you will be responsible for providing clinical hygiene services to patients aged 0-21 and performing administrative duties for our portable dental clinic at schools in the Alamance Burlington School System.

Responsibilities:
  • Take FMX, BWX, or Panorex x-rays
  • Complete oral prophylaxis, scaling and root planning, and/or periodontal maintenance procedures
  • Complete sealants and fluoride treatments
  • Provide screenings, dental health education, and oral hygiene instructions
  • Assist the dentist when necessary
  • Complete necessary documentation and review charts
  • Maintain hygiene equipment
  • Supervise and instruct UNC hygiene students and assist with special functions with ACC Dental Assisting students
  • Provide education for comprehensive clinic patients and to special populations as scheduled
  • Participate in special community activities such as Children's Dental Health Month, Give Kids a Smile, Health Fairs, etc.
  • Provide preventative dental health education for various community organizations
  • Provide hygiene services to children in a school setting without direct supervision as a public health hygienist
  • Provide administrative duties for the portable dental clinic

Skills and Abilities:
  • Considerable knowledge of and skill in the application of the techniques and practices of dental hygiene

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and to interpret and maintain records and reports
  • Ability to deal tactfully with the public and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions
  • Ability to work with other professional and support personnel in the performance of duties typical of the dental hygienist
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in dental hygiene from an appropriately accredited institution; or an Associate's degree in dental hygiene from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in dental hygiene or health education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5 full-time years or 4000 hours of clinical dental hygiene experience
Necessary Special Qualifications:
  • Licensed to practice as a dental hygienist in North Carolina
  • Become a Public Health Hygienist upon employment
  • Valid N.C. driver's license and have access to a personal vehicle
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficient in Dentrix Enterprise
  • Fluent in English and Spanish, both oral and in writing

Other Physical Requirements:
  • Vision (Near, Distance, Peripheral) Require close visual acuity for job duties such as transcription, extensive reading, operating computer terminal, and measurement devices
